The Revenue Lab at The Texas Tribune is a three-year project aimed at training news organizations in revenue-generating best practices and experimenting with new revenue ideas.
Our small team seeks a detail-oriented Project Manager to help us stay on task, on time and to deliver best-in-class results. Our work includes building a new website and stocking it with white papers, case studies, videos and tutorials. We’ll need help preparing presentations for conferences and meetings that share our learnings, and we’ll be producing our own in-person professional gatherings requiring coordination of speakers’ and attendees’ travel and logistics. We’re looking for a calm and collected taskmaster with the ability to juggle many projects with varying timelines and degrees of complexity. Deadlines will drive our work, so understanding priorities and keeping on top of resource allocation are critical. We are passionate about sustainable journalism so business experience, or more specifically the media business, is a big plus.
Keep track of multiple projects with their accompanying milestones, timelines, task lists and budgets, while keeping a top-level view of our time commitments and capacity
Communicate deadlines and updates to team members; updating workflows as needed for efficiency
Evaluate new projects for viability, and identify where additional support is required
Collaborate on project design and budgets, including learning modules, events and software development
Manage contractors, including payments, travel and deliverables
Assist with content generation, from conducting research, drafting presentations and managing video production about our work
Assist with writing, editing and illustrating RevLab materials, including newsletters, site posts and project reports
Serve as a resource to news outlets looking for help with their businesses, and a connector to information and resources in and out of RevLab
You are a positive and strong communicator (verbal and written) and understand how to keep team members informed
You are enthusiastic about developing solutions around challenging projects
You are meticulous and well organized
You have strong planning and organizational skills; project management certification not required but a plus
You have excellent interpersonal skills and don’t shy away from tough conversations when required to get the job done
You are entrepreneurial, good at managing your time, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
You are flexible and able to switch gears as needed, while keeping projects moving forward
Knowledge of the journalism industry is a big plus
Working knowledge of project management software, such as Asana or Basecamp
